Meet a Merchandiser

How did you get involved with c+i? I learned about c+i through my university’s online job database. It interested me that Chantel Waterbury, an alumnus of my school, was able to launch such a successful jewelry line. After a gruesome interview with Kristen (just kidding—it was completely painless), I learned about the vast opportunities that c+i had in store for me, and I joined the merchandiser board right away! Tell us about your first trunk show… Despite how exciting and fun it was, my first trunk show was not nearly as successful as I hoped it would be. I observed what I did well and what I could improve upon-for instance, not picking the most popular graduation Saturday for my first trunk show. In this sense, it was the ultimate learning experience. What is your favorite part of the ‘social shopping’ experience? I enjoy how personal it is. Also, the idea of shopping for jewelry at a friend’s house is so exciting because when a customer tries on a gorgeous piece, everyone gushes about how good it looks, and she truly feels enthusiastic about her purchase. Simply put, I love how much my customers love it. How would you describe your style?I tend to gravitate toward soft, elegant, and feminine pieces. I’ll often mix in something a little bolder, contrary to the popular belief that I shop in my grandmother’s closet. Who are your style influencers? I am in love with Emma Watson and Audrey Hepburn everything about them is classy. I also admire Rachel Bilson’s ability to make being 5’2 (my height) look appealing. Where do you go for fashion inspiration? I follow a variety of fashion blogs, my favorite being The Sartorialist. I also read Nylon and InStyle magazines. Do you have a favorite jewelry memory? As far back as I can remember, my grandma has been designing and crafting jewelry in her spare time. One of the necklaces she gave me that I particularly love is a simple gold and crystal chain link necklace. What are you learning about yourself through the c+i experience? I’m learning how important it is to stay positive if you are truly determined to achieve something, even when the easiest option seems to be giving up. In a matter of a few months, I’ve realized how much I’ve grown as both a merchandiser as well as a confident young woman.
